The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has given taxpayers whose accounts are subject to audit more time to file their income tax returns (ITRs) for Assessment Year 2026-27.
The deadline has been extended by three weeks from October 31 to November 21, 2026.
The CBDT has also extended the deadline for submitting the tax audit report. The ‘specified date’ for furnishing the report has been pushed from September 30 to October 21, 2026, giving taxpayers and auditors an additional 21 days.
The extension applies to taxpayers covered under the category for whom the October 31 ITR deadline was applicable before the change.
The CBDT said a formal order or notification will be issued separately.
