Q1 performance

Symbiotec reported a decline in profitability in the June quarter, with consolidated net profit falling more than 50% year-on-year to ₹14.1 crore from ₹29.9 crore. Consolidated EBITDA declined to ₹45.2 crore from ₹58 crore, even as revenue rose to ₹218.2 crore from ₹203.2 crore.

The results marked Symbiotec’s first quarterly performance since its stock market listing. Profitability was impacted by costs related to new businesses that are yet to contribute revenue. These operations incurred ₹23 crore in operating expenses and ₹12 crore in depreciation during the quarter.

The company expects these new businesses to start generating revenue over the next six to 12 months.

Symbiotec Pharmalab expects consolidated revenue and EBITDA to grow 20-25% in FY27, with Chairman and Managing Director Anil Satwani attributing the expected growth to commercial milestones in the second half of the financial year.

A key contributor is expected to be the company’s biotechnology contract manufacturing and contract development and manufacturing business.

Symbiotec has invested more than ₹400 crore in fermentation-based facilities using synthetic biology, with the investment now nearing the end of its initial development phase.

The company expects these facilities to generate initial revenue in the fourth quarter, with operations expected to scale up further in the following financial year.
