FII selling moderated from the previous session, when foreign investors offloaded ₹9,484.22 crore. DIIs, meanwhile, continued to absorb the selling pressure after buying ₹10,041.84 crore in the previous session.
The buying by domestic institutions came as Indian stocks snapped a four-day losing streak in a volatile session. The Sensex rose 473 points to 72,383, while the Nifty gained 134 points to 22,556.
Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank and ITC contributed the most to the Nifty’s gains. IT stocks, however, failed to hold their opening gains after Accenture’s fourth-quarter results, with HCLTech falling 3%.
The Nifty Bank rose 263 points to 54,714, while the Nifty Midcap index gained 392 points to 59,124.
HDFC Bank fell more than 2% amid profit booking following the appointment of its new MD and CEO. ITC was the top Nifty gainer, rising more than 5% after a positive brokerage note.
DMart fell more than 6% following its second-quarter business update, while AU Small Finance Bank and Nykaa were among the top midcap gainers after strong Q2 updates.
Hospital stocks extended their losses, with Apollo Hospitals and Max Healthcare falling nearly 2% each. V2 Retail plunged nearly 16% after lowering its same-store sales growth outlook for FY27 to 5-7% from 8-10% earlier.
PB Fintech ended lower for the seventh consecutive session, while MOIL shares jumped 5% after the company reported 19% year-on-year growth in September production.
Market breadth remained weak, with the advance-decline ratio at 1:1.
