Godrej Consumer Products opens Indonesia plant with ₹250 crore investment

Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL) on Tuesday inaugurated the first phase of its new manufacturing facility in Indonesia’s Kendal Special Economic Zone, as part of an IDR 500 billion (around ₹250 crore) investment in the country.

The facility, operated by GCPL’s Indonesian subsidiary Godrej Consumer Products Indonesia (GCPI), has been built on 2.5 hectares of the company’s 5.5-hectare site in Kendal. The first phase will manufacture household insecticides for the Indonesian market and support exports.

The investment will increase GCPL’s capacity across its home and personal care categories in Indonesia by around 15%, the company said. Its existing Indonesian operations are currently running at 75-80% capacity utilisation.

Indonesia becomes export hub

The Kendal facility was built in just over a year and has been designed with technology and data integrated into its operations. GCPL said this will provide greater visibility across the plant and help improve the speed and efficiency of operations.

The company has been present in Indonesia since 2010, and its business in the country has grown 4.5 times since then. Brands including HIT, Stella, Mitu and NYU now reach around one in four Indonesian households.

GCPL Managing Director and CEO Aasif Malbari said Indonesia remains an important market for the company and that the Kendal investment will provide a platform to expand exports across the region.

The company said the facility will also focus on developing local capabilities and creating more inclusive employment opportunities. GCPI aims to have women account for 50% of the facility’s workforce, while also creating opportunities for persons with disabilities.GCPL shares closed 4.03% higher at ₹870.75 on the NSE on October 6.
