5 uncomfortable questions you should ask yourself before another year slips by and you realize you were living on autopilot

Anger, grief, disappointment or envy often get pushed down because they feel messy or inconvenient. Yet several therapists note that the emotions we refuse to acknowledge tend to influence behavior in indirect ways. Giving yourself permission to name the feeling even privately can reduce its power to drive decisions from the background. The question is simply: which difficult emotion have I been treating as off-limits, and what happens when I stop treating it that way?

If nothing changed for the next five years, would I be all right with that?

This one forces a longer view. It asks whether the current direction of work, relationships and daily habits is sustainable or quietly draining. Psychologists who encourage yearly self-checks often include a version of this question because it cuts through short-term justifications. The answer does not have to satisfying; it only needs to be honest.
