MUMBAI: A food complaint over an alleged rat found in a masala dosa at a Borivli hotel has taken an unexpected turn, with police registering an FIR against two sisters for allegedly trying to extort money from the hotelier.According to the FIR, sisters Mansi and Kinjal, along with their relatives, had gone to the hotel for a meal on September 24 when one of their relatives allegedly found a rat in the masala dosa. The family created a ruckus at the restaurant and called the police.A video purportedly showing the rat in the food surfaced on social media two days later and went viral. On September 28, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended the restaurant’s licence.Police said that after the licence was suspended, the hotelier received a call from the sisters, who allegedly demanded Rs 25 lakh as compensation. During a subsequent meeting, they reportedly told the hotelier that their relative’s health had deteriorated after eating the food and that they needed money for his treatment and care. When the hotelier said he could not arrange Rs 25 lakh, the sisters allegedly negotiated the amount down to Rs 7 lakh. The hotelier eventually paid them Rs 1 lakh, but they allegedly continued calling and messaging him for the remaining amount. The hotelier subsequently approached the police, following which Borivli Police registered an FIR against the two sisters on October 5. Further investigation is underway.
