Kotak Multi Cap Fund completes 5 years: How its SIP returns compare with its benchmark

A systematic investment plan (SIP) of ₹6 lakh in Kotak Multi Cap Fund – Regular Plan over five years would have grown to ₹8.44 lakh, generating annualised returns of 13.66%, according to Value Research data.

The fund, launched on September 29, 2021, has completed five years, with assets under management (AUM) of ₹30,335 crore as of September 30, 2026, according to the asset management company (AMC).

Kotak Mutual Fund said the scheme delivered a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.8% over five years. Its Direct Growth plan generated a CAGR of 15.93% over three years and 16.12% over five years as of September 30, 2026.

Over the corresponding periods, the fund’s benchmark, the Nifty 500 Multicap 50:25:25 Total Return Index (TRI), delivered returns of 10.97% and 10.98%, respectively, the AMC said.

The fund is managed by Devender Singhal and Abhishek Bisen. It follows a bottom-up stock-selection approach based on business fundamentals, management quality and valuations, according to the AMC. Its portfolio spans sectors such as banking and financial services, automobiles, industrials, construction and telecommunications.

Multi-cap funds invest across large-cap, mid-cap and small-cap stocks, with a minimum allocation of 25% to each category under Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) rules.

The Value Research figure relates to the Regular Plan’s SIP calculator, while the AMC’s reported performance figures are for the Direct Growth plan.

Returns can differ between the two plans because of differences in expenses.

Investors should also note that past returns do not guarantee future performance. Returns from equity mutual funds are market-linked and can fluctuate, with the possibility of losses. Actual SIP returns depend on the timing of investments and prevailing market conditions.
