The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the Common Recruitment Test (CRT) for the recruitment of Principal and Vice-Principal posts in the Education Department. According to the revised schedule, the examination will now be conducted on January 9, 2027, instead of the earlier date of December 1, 2026.The recruitment test will be held in the forenoon session from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Candidates appearing for the examination should take note of the revised date and plan their preparation accordingly. The recruitment drive covers 24 vacancies for the post of Principal and 704 vacancies for Vice-Principal in the Education Department. The examination is a key stage in the selection process for eligible candidates seeking appointment to these positions. The postponement reportedly follows a request from the Government School Teachers Association (GSTA), Delhi, which had approached the Commission seeking additional preparation time for eligible teachers.According to GSTA general secretary Ajay Veer Yadav, as reported by a media outlet, government school teachers and vice-principals were finding it difficult to devote sufficient time to examination preparation because of their professional responsibilities.Apart from their regular teaching and administrative duties, several eligible candidates were reportedly deployed as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. These additional responsibilities increased their workload and limited the time available for preparing for the competitive examination. The association consequently urged UPSC to defer the examination, allowing candidates more time to prepare while continuing to discharge their official duties.
What is the selection process after the UPSC CRT?
Candidates who qualify in the Common Recruitment Test will become eligible for the next stage of the selection process, which is the interview. The Commission will shortlist candidates for the interview based on the information provided in their application forms and their performance in the recruitment test. The recruitment notice states that shortlisting will take both application details and CRT performance into account. Candidates should therefore ensure that the information submitted in their applications is accurate and consistent with the relevant eligibility requirements. With the examination now scheduled for January 9, 2027, candidates should follow the revised timetable and monitor the official UPSC website for further updates, including examination instructions and other recruitment-related announcements.
