Samir Arora, Founder & Fund Manager at Helios Capital, believes the upcoming Jio Platforms initial public offering (IPO) is among compelling long-term investment opportunities, backed by the company’s role in building the country’s digital infrastructure and its ability to grow beyond the initial listing.
Arora described the stock as a high-confidence investment after listing. “After that, it will become… a high confidence and then reasonable return,” he said, adding that while the IPO may generate early gains, the bigger opportunity lies in sustained long-term growth rather than short-term price moves.
Jio’s anchor investor book has seen overwhelming demand ahead of the public issue, highlighting strong institutional interest in what is set to be India’s largest IPO.
Arora said the IPO should deliver healthy listing gains, but investors should focus on Jio’s long-term earnings potential rather than just the debut. He expects the company to benefit from India’s expanding digital economy, with mobile connectivity, broadband and enterprise services providing multiple growth drivers over the coming years.
Calling Jio a foundational player in India’s internet ecosystem, Arora said, “One of the big stories of India is that we had this telecom penetration and mobile… because of Jio.” He added that the company’s contribution extends beyond telecom, enabling the rise of India’s new-age digital businesses.
He also praised the scale at which Jio has been built. “You can’t not be impressed,” Arora said, noting that creating a business of Jio’s size within a relatively short period reflects the strength of India’s digital opportunity.
Beyond Jio, Arora said India’s broader equity market is also entering a more favourable phase after nearly two years of relative underperformance. He expects improving corporate earnings, a more stable currency and easing concentration in global AI-related investments to support Indian equities over the coming quarters.
Arora also reiterated his long-standing view that India should remove the long-term capital gains (LTCG) tax on foreign portfolio investors to improve the country’s competitiveness for global capital, arguing that taxation continues to weigh on foreign allocations despite improving fundamentals.
