YES Bank has said it retains the right to exercise coupon discretion on its Additional Tier-1 (AT-1) bonds and will communicate its decision after completing an assessment of the available options following a Supreme Court judgment concerning the bonds.
In a disclosure dated October 24, the private sector lender said it had been receiving queries from bondholders regarding coupon payments. According to the Information Memorandum dated October 17, 2017, the 9% YES Bank AT-1 bonds had a coupon payment date of October 18, 2026.
“Given that the Bank has not completed the evaluation and assessment, the Bank will communicate its decision, if any, on whether or not exercise of coupon discretion is required in respect of the AT-1 Bonds after it has completed the evaluation and assessment,” the bank said.
YES Bank said it expects to complete the assessment in due course and will make further disclosures as required under the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) Listing Regulations.
The bank also assured stakeholders that its day-to-day operations and customer services would continue without interruption across its branches and digital channels.
Reuters on Thursday reported that the bank was unlikely to pay coupons due this year on the bonds and that it was preparing to seek a review of the SC ruling.
Further, retail investors holding the bonds had said they had not received coupon payments due on October 18.
