Indian stock market closed today’s (October 28) on a lower note for the second consecutive session. The Nifty50 closed the trade 50.90 points or 0.22 per cent lower at 22,698.85, while the 30-stock BSE Sensex settled 352.64 points or 0.48 per cent lower at 73,246.03. The market breadth remained in the favour of bulls. Out of 3,669 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,960 advanced, while 1,584 stocks declined, and 125 scrips remained unchanged. In today’s session, 38 stocks hit a fresh 52-week high, while 147 stocks were at a new 52-week low.
Infosys’ shares gained the most in the Nifty50, closing 3.4 per cent lower. It was followed by Reliance Industries, ONGC, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, and many others. On the other hand, Apollo Hospitals, L&T, Trent, SBI Life Insurance, and InterGlobe Aviation were the five major gainers in the index.
The Nifty index extended its sideways journey for the fifth consecutive trading session within the 22,370–22,850 zone. A decisive trade above the 22,850 level could lead the index toward the upper band of its past month’s consolidation range at 23,200, said Vipin Kumar, Assistant Vice President of Research at Globe Capital Market.
“Conversely, a fall below the 22,370 level could drag it back down to 22,180. Volatility is expected to remain high due to the scheduled monthly derivatives expiry on October 29, 2026, alongside the US Fed interest rate decision scheduled for October 28, 2026,” he added.
