If you can, visit the new house before the furniture arrives. Check the walls, ceilings, windows, doors, locks, taps, drains, switches and wiring, and note any damage with photos, which helps with deposits and repairs. Then give the place a thorough clean, since it is far easier to do this while the rooms are empty. Wipe cupboards and shelves, clean the bathrooms and kitchen, dust fans and corners, and mop the floors. If you notice signs of pests or dampness, deal with them now, before anything is unpacked.
