FARIDABAD: “I don’t talk to pups; send your father.” That was allegedly what Monu Sharma told Shaurya, son of senior IT executive Paramjeet Dhankar, during a confrontation over a damaged gate in their common parking area, news agency PTI reported. The exchange, which took place on Friday, set off a chain of events that led Dhankar to approach a police post to complain against his neighbour. But what followed there was even more disturbing: When police summoned Sharma, he allegedly threatened to kill Dhankar before the night was over.Hours later, the threat allegedly turned into reality. Sharma called Dhankar downstairs from his house in Faridabad’s Sector 21C on the pretext of discussing a car parking issue and opened fire at him with a licensed pistol.Fifteen rounds were fired, nine of which are believed to have hit the 45-year-old executive, killing him on the spot. His son, who was also targeted, survived by taking cover behind parked vehicles.‘I will not leave you alive by tonight’According to police sources, the confrontation began after Shaurya approached Sharma over a damaged gate in the common parking area and sought repairs. Sharma allegedly refused to speak to him, telling him to send his father instead, news agency PTI reported.Dhankar, who lived in Singapore, had returned to India on Thursday to celebrate Diwali and attend his nephew’s wedding. After learning about the exchange, he went to Ankhir police chowki and lodged a complaint against Sharma, sources said.Police subsequently called Sharma to the post to address the complaint. It was here that Sharma allegedly issued an explicit death threat to Dhankar in front of police personnel.“I will not leave you alive by tonight,” he allegedly told Dhankar, according to police sources.Despite the threat, officials reportedly helped the two sides reach a compromise, allegedly considering Sharma’s warning hollow. The victim’s friends later questioned why police did not take the threat seriously or act against Sharma. From police post to parking lot: What happened nextAround 8.30pm on Friday, Sharma allegedly rang the bell at Dhankar’s ground-floor residence in house No. 641 and called him downstairs, asking him to move his car.Shaurya accompanied his father to the parking area. An argument reportedly broke out, following which Sharma allegedly pulled out his licensed pistol and fired at close range.According to police, 15 rounds were fired. Nine bullets are believed to have struck Dhankar, though the exact number will be confirmed after the postmortem. Sharma allegedly also fired at Shaurya, who escaped by taking cover behind parked vehicles.Dhankar tried to flee but collapsed and died at the spot before he could be taken to hospital. The accused fled in his car with his family.Police teams from Surajkund police station, the crime branch and the forensic science laboratory reached the spot and collected evidence, including empty cartridges. Bullet marks were visible on parking pillars and vehicles, while bloodstains marked the road where Dhankar fell.A history of quarrels between neighboursThe confrontation at the police post was the latest in a series of disputes between the two families, who lived in the same building. Sharma occupied the second floor with his wife, son and daughter, while Dhankar and his family lived on the ground floor.Around five days before the murder, Sharma had allegedly abused Shaurya during an argument over his pet dog defecating in the common parking area. Dhankar’s family lodged a police complaint, but the matter was later settled.Dhankar’s father, Mange Ram, also alleged that Sharma had damaged their house gate, prompting another police complaint two to three days before the shooting. He further accused Sharma of recently assaulting an 85-year-old neighbour in the building.“Mohan is a notorious man, and he recently assaulted another 85-year-old neighbour in the building. He had also damaged our house gate three days back, following which we lodged a police complaint as well. On Friday, he called my son downstairs on the pretext of asking him to move his car and fired at him, killing him on the spot. There is ample space in the parking area. My son was a very decent man,” Mange Ram said.Accused arrested in BallabhgarhA crime branch team arrested Sharma near DLF Chowk in Ballabhgarh on Saturday. Police said he would be produced before a court and taken on remand for questioning and collection of evidence.“Based on the complaint of Paramjeet’s son Shaurya, a case has been registered against Monu Sharma alias Mohan, his wife Divya, son Mayank, daughter Naina and brother Hetram. Paramjeet’s body has been sent to the civil hospital for a postmortem. We have arrested the main accused, Monu Sharma, and are questioning him,” Surajkund SHO Prahlad Singh said.A case was registered at Surajkund police station under sections 103 (murder), 109 (attempt to murder) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Dhankar was senior vice-president at Singapore-based FPT Software Company Ltd and had earlier headed Tech Mahindra’s Asia-Pacific regional business operations.
