Alkem Laboratories shares crater after CEO Vikas Gupta resigns to pursue new opportunities


Alkem Laboratories Ltd. on Friday, April 24, saw its share price fall as much as 5% after the company said that its chief executive officer (CEO) and key managerial personnel Vikas Gupta has resigned to pursue new professional opportunities.

Gupta will continue till June 30, 2026 for smooth transition of responsibilities, the company said in an exchange filing.

The company has not mentioned who will be taking over Gupta’s role yet.

“This was not an easy decision, but I have decided to step down to pursue new professional opportunities that align closely with my long term professional and personal goals,” Gupta said in his resignation letter.

He added that he is fully prepared to assist the management to ensure a seamless handover of all ongoing strategic initiatives and leadership responsibilities till June 30, 2026.

Shares of Alkem Laboratories declined sharply post Gupta’s resignation announcement, falling 3.7% to hit an intraday low of ₹5313.5 apiece. The stock has declined 2.6% this year, so far.
