Haryana’s agri, environment tech earns global acclaim


Chandigarh: Haryana has received international recognition for its innovations in agriculture and environmental protection, winning the Geospatial Excellence Award at the Geospatial World Forum 2026 held in Amsterdam, Netherlands.The award was conferred on the Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC), functioning under the state citizen resources information department, for developing a comprehensive geo-enabled ecosystem based on the “Space to Citizen Service” concept. The initiative was designed to strengthen governance, assist farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices across the state.Congratulating the HARSAC team, Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini described the recognition as a proud moment for the state. He said the technologies and innovations developed by HARSAC, particularly in agriculture and crop residue management, have proved highly beneficial for farmers, govt departments and the public.HARSAC director Sultan Singh said the achievement reflected the CM’s visionary leadership and citizen-centric policies, which have helped Haryana emerge as a leading state in digital agriculture and geospatial innovation.According to officials, the geo-enabled system supports over 15 lakh farmers and operates across more than one crore agricultural fields and parcels. It also caters to over 4,000 daily users, including senior officials, revenue stakeholders, patwaris, surveyors, entrepreneurs and students.The advanced geospatial platforms developed by the HARSAC are being used for crop monitoring, yield assessment, water resource management, land-use planning, crop insurance analytics, climate resilience initiatives and crop residue management. Officials said the agency is also carrying out mapping and monitoring of water bodies, transport networks and panchayat assets using satellite imagery, GIS dashboards, UAV surveys and AI-enabled analytics.The international jury particularly appreciated HARSAC’s scalable geospatial technology model supporting food security, environmental sustainability and climate resilience.MSID:: 131138493 413 |
