UIDAI extends free Aadhaar online document update facility till June 2027


The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the free online document update facility on the myAadhaar portal by another year, allowing Aadhaar holders to update their documents online without any charge till June 14, 2027.

The decision was announced through an official memorandum dated May 13, 2026. UIDAI said the extension was granted after receiving a strong response from residents updating their Aadhaar details digitally through the portal.

The facility allows users to update Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents online through the myAadhaar platform without paying the usual fee charged for updates at physical Aadhaar centres.

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued to residents of India and is widely used as proof of identity and address for government and private services.

How to update Aadhaar documents onlineUsers can update their Aadhaar documents by visiting myAadhaar portal and following these steps:

  • Log in using Aadhaar number and OTP
  • Upload scanned copies of valid PoI and PoA documents
  • Submit the request online
  • Save the 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) to track the application status

Steps to update address onlineFor address updates, users need to:

  • Log in to the Aadhaar self-service update portal
  • Click on ‘Proceed to Update Address’
  • Enter the new address and upload supporting proof
  • Submit the request and note the URN for tracking

Once the request is approved, users can download the updated Aadhaar online.

UIDAI, the government body responsible for issuing and managing Aadhaar numbers, said the move is aimed at encouraging more residents to keep their demographic details updated through digital channels.
