Lemon Tree Hotels bets on temple tourism with new property in Tamil Nadu's Kumbakonam

Lemon Tree Hotels Limited has signed a licence agreement for a new hotel property in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, as the hospitality chain continues to expand its presence in South India.

The property, to be branded as Lemon Tree Hotel, Kumbakonam, will be managed by Carnation Hotels Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lemon Tree Hotels.

According to the company, the hotel will feature 66 rooms along with a multi-cuisine restaurant, banquet hall, meeting room, swimming pool, spa and fitness centre.

With the latest signing, Lemon Tree Hotels said its footprint in Tamil Nadu will increase to eight hotels, including six operational properties and two upcoming hotels.
The company said the expansion aligns with its strategy of strengthening its presence across key cultural, tourism and commercial destinations in South India.

Kumbakonam, known as a prominent heritage and spiritual destination in South India, has been witnessing growing demand from pilgrims, cultural travellers and business visitors. The company said increasing regional connectivity and transit movement have also supported the need for branded hospitality offerings in the city.

The property is located around 101 km from Tiruchirappalli International Airport and approximately 300 metres from Kumbakonam Railway Station.

Commenting on the development, Neelendra Singh, Managing Director of Lemon Tree Hotels, said expanding across India’s major spiritual destinations remains a strategic focus for the company and that Kumbakonam presents an opportunity to cater to a steady flow of pilgrims and cultural travellers.

The company said the addition also supports its broader expansion roadmap across Tier II and Tier III markets in India.

Shares of LEMONTREE closed 3.17% higher at ₹116.90 on the NSE on Monday.
