Bharat Connect e-challan payments cross 1 million transactions; value tops ₹60 crore

NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL) on Wednesday (May 27) said its e-challan payment category on Bharat Connect has crossed one million transactions, with total payments exceeding ₹60 crore.

The company said the service is currently live in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, allowing users to view and pay traffic challans through the Bharat Connect platform.

According to NBBL, Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest adoption with more than 700,000 transactions since launch, followed by Telangana and Gujarat. Delhi and Himachal Pradesh have recently joined the network, while additional states are expected to be added in the coming months.

The e-challan category is part of Bharat Connect, formerly known as the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), which provides interoperable digital payment services for utility and civic payments.

NBBL said the milestone reflects increasing use of digital channels for civic utility payments and supports broader efforts toward digital public infrastructure and governance.

Commenting on the development, Noopur Chaturvedi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NBBL, said the growth in e-challan payments indicates rising consumer preference for digital-first public services. She added that the company would continue working with ecosystem partners to expand accessibility for civic payments.

NBBL is a wholly owned subsidiary of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates retail payment systems in India.
