The West Bengal government has launched the Annapurna Yojana, a financial assistance scheme for women that will come into effect from June 1.

Under the scheme, eligible women will receive monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000 through direct transfer to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.

The state government said the scheme is aimed at providing financial support and strengthening social security for women across the state.

What is the Annapurna Yojana?

The Annapurna Yojana is a women’s welfare scheme introduced by the West Bengal government to provide monthly financial assistance to eligible women aged between 25 and 60 years.

According to the government, the enrolment process will continue for 90 days from June 1 and applications can be submitted through both online and offline modes.

What did Suvendu Adhikari say about the scheme?

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari released the application form for the scheme and said the Women and Child Welfare Department, headed by Minister Agnimitra Paul, will serve as the nodal authority for implementation.

He said beneficiaries of the existing Lakshmir Bhandar scheme will continue receiving assistance until the transition process is completed.

“People need not hurry because the government is giving ninety days for enrolment under the scheme. The form can be submitted in both online and offline modes,” Adhikari said.

He also said “Janakalyan Shibir” camps will be organised across West Bengal from June 15 to 17 to assist applicants.

The government said the registration process will remain open for 90 days starting June 1.

The enrolment exercise will be conducted across municipalities and wards through online and offline registration drives.

Applicants can apply online through the official social security portal.

Steps to apply online

  • Visit the official portal: socialsecurity.wb.gov.in
  • Download the application form in English, Bengali or Hindi
  • Read the instructions carefully before filling the form
  • Enter personal details including name, Aadhaar number, date of birth and contact details
  • Fill in household and income-related information
  • Provide bank account details for direct benefit transfer
  • Upload or attach the required documents
  • Submit the application online

How to apply offline

Applicants can also submit physical application forms at designated centres.

Steps for offline submission

  • Download and print the application form
  • Fill in all required details carefully using blue or black ink
  • Attach self-attested copies of the necessary documents
  • Submit the form at the local BDO office, municipality office, camp or designated centre
  • Collect the acknowledgement receipt after submission

Who is eligible for Annapurna Yojana?

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a permanent resident of West Bengal
  • Must be between 25 and 60 years of age
  • Should not be an income tax payer
  • Name must be included in the West Bengal voter list

The following categories are not eligible:

  • Permanent employees of central or state governments
  • Employees of statutory bodies, panchayats and government-aided institutions
  • Pension recipients
  • Documents required for Annapurna Yojana enrolment

Applicants will need the following documents while applying:

  • Aadhaar card
  • Voter ID card
  • Bank passbook or bank statement
  • Income certificate
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Active mobile number

Applicants can track their application status online through the state social security portal.

  • Enter the reference number
