Sarmeeli Mallick is a senior journalist with nearly a decade of experience in digital journalism. With a master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, she has a proven track record of impactful reporting, having filed over 19,000 news stories since beginning her career in May 2016.
Her diverse background, rooted in Assam’s Guwahati and with family ties to Kendrapara district in Odisha, has given her a unique linguistic versatility. Fluent in English, Hindi, Odia, Bengali, Assamese, and Bhojpuri, she also has a working understanding of Nagamese and Nepali, allowing her to connect with communities across India on a deeper level.
Early in her career, Sarmeeli established herself in Odisha by covering a wide array of topics, from local politics and crime to civic issues and human interest stories. A highlight of this period includes her extensive coverage of on-the-ground reporting during the 2019 Odisha assembly elections. She also has extensive experience of working in a newsroom during several major cyclones, including Titli, Fani, Bulbul, Amphan, Yaas, and Gulab, highlighting her ability to report on significant natural disasters and high-pressure events.
In 2022, Sarmeeli transitioned to a national platform, joining Times Now Digital. This move allowed her to specialize in topics she’s never knew she was passionate about: stock market, corporate news, finance, and economy. Known for crafting data-driven and well-research articles, she also continues to write on politics, sports, and job and education.
Her business journalism portfolio includes interviews with prominent industry leaders such as Padma Shri awardee Dr. Azad Moopen, the founder of Aster DM Healthcare; Sajjan Kumar, the Managing Director of Nikon India; and Preeti Bajaj, the CEO of Luminous Power Technologies.
