Singer and rapper Doja Cat also weighed in on the controversy in a video shared on TikTok. “Opera is 400 years old and ballet is 500 years old,” she said, began and went on add, “Some guy named Timothée Chalamet, Big guy, by the way. Had the nerve to say, on camera, that nobody cares about it. I’m sure you could walk into an opera theatre right now. Seats will be filled out, and nobody’s saying a word as the performance is going because everybody has that much respect for it. There is an etiquette around opera. There is etiquette around ballet. It’s amazing. It’s an amazing theatre medium. It’s beautiful.”Sharing her admiration for the performers, she said, “And people go there every day to the dance studio, dancers show up 8 AM, 6 AM, whatever the fuck. They show up and they break and they bleed. Every single day. Just because they have respect for it. They love it. They love what they do.”Speaking about the industry going through a touch time, she said, “It doesn’t matter if, if the industry is having a tough time at any time, which a lot of industries have a tough time. Your industry has a tough time. My industry has a tough time. Doesn’t mean people don’t care about it. People care. Dancers care. The singers care, the audience cares, they’re still an audience. People give a f**k. You show up in a nice outfit, you sit the fuck down, and shut the f**k up. That’s the usual etiquette around those things. Maybe learn something from that.”Chalamet has previously received multiple Oscar nominations over the course of his career. This year, he earned nominations for both Best Actor and Best Picture for ‘Marty Supreme’. The 30-year-old became the youngest male actor to earn three acting nominations. If he wins, he would become the second-youngest winner in that category behind Adrien Brody. The Academy Awards will be held on March 15.
