Seven people were killed and 51 others wounded in a wave of Ukrainian drone attacks across Russia overnight, Russian officials said on Saturday. The strikes hit two warehouses belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, as well as an oil depot and a residential building. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed that Kyiv had targeted two major logistics facilities in the Moscow and Tambov regions, which he said were used to supply sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment.The attacks marked another deep strike by Ukraine against infrastructure linked to Russia’s war effort. Moscow said its air defences intercepted 379 Ukrainian drones over 19 Russian regions, as well as Crimea, the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
Seven killed in Tambov warehouse strike
Seven night-shift workers were killed, and 25 people were wounded after Ukrainian drones struck a Wildberries warehouse in Kotovsk in the Tambov region, Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov said.The city is around 360 kilometres (220 miles) from the Ukrainian border and roughly 475 kilometres (295 miles) southeast of Moscow.“Seven people working the night shift died on the spot,” Pervyshov wrote on Telegram, adding that 28 drones were also shot down on approach.“If they had achieved their goal, the number of civilian casualties could have been much higher,” he said.A separate Ukrainian drone attack hit another Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal, a city around 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Moscow, Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said.Twenty-four people were wounded in the attack, taking the total number of people injured in the strikes to 51.Wildberries co-founder and CEO Tatyana Kim described it as a “terrible night” for Russia and the company, and offered condolences to the victims’ families.
Oil depot fire, evacuations reported
In the Moscow region city of Noginsk, falling drone debris sparked a fire at an oil depot, Vorobyov said.Two people were wounded in the attack. A nearby maternity hospital and one residential building were evacuated as a precaution.The governor did not specify the extent of damage to the oil facility.
Zelenskiy confirms logistics targets
Zelenskiy said Ukrainian long-range strikes had hit two “significant logistical facilities in the Moscow and Tambov regions”.“These facilities were used by the aggressor to supply sanctioned components for the production of drones and navigation equipment,” he wrote on Telegram.He also said an oil facility had been hit. Ukrainian special operations forces carried out strikes against targets in the Sea of Azov and occupied territory, he added.In the city of Vladimir, around 180 kilometres (110 miles) east of Moscow, a Ukrainian drone hit a residential building and sparked a brief fire, regional Governor Alexander Avdeyev said.No casualties were reported.The Russian defence ministry said its air defences had intercepted 379 Ukrainian drones overnight across 19 Russian regions, as well as Crimea, the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
