8th Pay Commission consultant jobs: Applications close today; check eligibility, salary and how to apply


The application window for consultant positions with the 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) will end on Monday, August 31. The Commission is hiring for Senior Consultant, Consultant and Young Professional roles on a contractual basis.

The positions will support work related to pay, allowances, pensions, compensation, data analysis and legal research as the Commission works on its recommendations for Central government employees and pensioners.

20 positions across three categories

The Commission has specified a maximum of 20 consultant positions:

The age and experience cut-off date is April 1, 2026.

Who can apply?

Candidates can apply if they have a Master’s degree or MBA in Finance, Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a similar subject.

Those with an LL.B degree, enrolment with a Bar Council or Bar Association, and relevant experience in legal research or handling service matters before tribunals or courts are also eligible.

Knowledge and experience of Excel, spreadsheets and presentation tools is mandatory across all three categories. Experience in pay structures, compensation or establishment matters will be preferred.

What will the job involve?

Consultants will assist with analysing salaries, allowances, pensions and existing pay structures. The work can also involve studying data and surveys, conducting legal research, coordinating with government departments and assisting with specialised studies on human resources and compensation.

Other responsibilities include examining representations received by the Commission, estimating the fiscal impact of recommendations and preparing reports and presentations.How much will consultants be paid?

The fixed monthly remuneration is:

  • Senior Consultant: ₹1.8 lakh full-time; ₹90,000 for 12 working days; ₹45,000 for six working days.
  • Consultant: ₹1.2 lakh full-time; ₹60,000 for 12 working days; ₹30,000 for six working days.
  • Young Professional: ₹90,000 full-time; ₹45,000 for 12 working days; ₹22,500 for six working days.

Applicable taxes and cess will be deducted at source.

Tenure and other conditions

The engagement will initially be for one year or until the tenure of the Commission, whichever is earlier. Extensions may be considered based on performance.

The positions are temporary and contractual. Full-time consultants cannot take up another assignment during their engagement.
