The commission is scheduled to hold meetings in Chennai on September 7 and 8. The visit is part of its ongoing consultations with organisations and associations representing Central Government employees and other stakeholders. The commission had invited concerned organisations and unions in Tamil Nadu to seek appointments for the Chennai visit.
The deadline for submitting appointment requests for the Chennai visit was August 18. The commission had also clarified that stakeholders from other states and Union Territories should not seek appointments during the Chennai visit, as separate meetings would be held in other locations.
The 8th CPC has already held consultations in several locations, including Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata. It also held its scheduled visit to Jaipur on August 31 and September 1.
What comes next for the 8th Pay Commission
The commission is scheduled to travel to Puducherry on September 9, immediately after the Chennai visit. It has also scheduled a three-day visit to Chandigarh from September 16 to 18. The deadline for seeking appointments for the Chandigarh visit was August 25.
The next month will see the commission visit Bengaluru on October 7 and 8. Stakeholders seeking appointments for the Bengaluru visit were required to submit their requests by September 18.
The commission’s official website currently lists Chennai, Puducherry, Chandigarh and Bengaluru among its upcoming or scheduled state/UT consultations.The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted by the government in November 2025. It is headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, with Prof. Pulak Ghosh as part-time member and Pankaj Jain as Member-Secretary.
The commission is expected to make recommendations on matters relating to pay, allowances, pensions and other service conditions of Central Government employees and other categories covered under its terms of reference. Its consultations are part of the process of gathering inputs before the recommendations are finalised.
