8th Pay Commission job vacancies open till Aug 31: Who can apply, salary and other key details


With the application deadline drawing closer, professionals interested in working with the 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) have until August 31, to apply for consultant positions. The Commission had first issued the notification on April 10, inviting applications for contractual engagements across three categories of consultants.

The 8th Pay Commission has been constituted to review and recommend changes to the pay, allowances and pension structure of Central government employees and pensioners.

The Commission is looking to hire Senior Consultants, Consultants and Young Professionals on a contractual basis to support its work on pay structures, compensation, legal research, data analysis and policy studies.

What kind of work will consultants do?

According to the official guidelines, selected candidates will assist the Commission in a range of assignments, including:

  • Analysing salaries, allowances, pensions and existing emolument structures.
  • Studying data, reports and surveys to identify trends in pay and compensation.
  • Conducting legal research related to the Commission’s mandate.
  • Coordinating with Central government ministries and departments for data collection.
  • Assisting with specialised studies on human resources, compensation, gratuity and bonus mechanisms.
  • Analysing memoranda and representations received by the Commission.
  • Estimating the fiscal impact of the Commission’s recommendations.
  • Preparing reports, presentations and other analytical material.

Who is eligible?

The notification divides applicants into three categories:

Senior Consultant 5 45 years 10 years
Consultant 5 40 years 6 years
Young Professional 10 32 years 4 years

(*The cut-off date for age and experience is April 1, 2026.)Applicants should possess either:

  • A Master’s degree or MBA in Finance, Human Resources, Industrial Relations or related disciplines; or
  • An LL.B degree with enrolment with a Bar Council/Bar Association and relevant experience in legal research or service matters before tribunals or courts.

Knowledge of Excel, spreadsheets and presentation tools is mandatory for all categories. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in pay, compensation or establishment matters.

Salary and tenure

The appointments will be contractual, initially for one year or until the tenure of the Commission, whichever is earlier. Extensions, if any, will depend on performance.

The fixed monthly remuneration is:

  • Senior Consultant: ₹1.8 lakh (full-time), ₹90,000 (12-day part-time), ₹45,000 (6-day part-time).
  • Consultant: ₹1.2 lakh (full-time), ₹60,000 (12-day part-time), ₹30,000 (6-day part-time).
  • Young Professional: ₹90,000 (full-time), ₹45,000 (12-day part-time), ₹22,500 (6-day part-time).

Income tax and other applicable deductions will be made at source.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online through the application link available on the 8th Central Pay Commission’s website. The Commission has clarified that physical or hard-copy applications will not be accepted.
