The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and institutions under its purview to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to ensure the fair conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 Re-Examination scheduled for June 21. In a public notice issued on June 18, the Commission called for strict compliance with instructions issued by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education.The directive comes amid concerns over past instances in which students of medical colleges were allegedly found involved in activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of the national medical entrance examination. The NMC has asked institutions to sensitise students and discourage any conduct that may adversely affect the examination process.NMC Issues Compliance AdvisoryIn its notice, the NMC attached a communication received from the Department of Higher Education regarding the conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 Re-Examination and instructed all medical colleges and institutes to adhere to the directions issued by the Ministry.The Commission said the advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure to safeguard the integrity of the examination. It emphasised that institutions must remain alert and ensure that students are aware of the consequences of engaging in any activity that could undermine the fairness of the test.Medical Colleges Asked to Remain VigilantReferring to previous incidents, the NMC noted that certain students from medical colleges had allegedly been involved in activities detrimental to the examination process. Without elaborating on specific cases, the Commission stressed the need for heightened vigilance by college authorities.Medical colleges have been instructed to sensitise students about maintaining ethical conduct and to reinforce the importance of preserving the credibility of national-level entrance examinations. The move is aimed at acting as a deterrent against any potential malpractice linked to the examination.Leave Restrictions on June 20 and 21As part of the preventive measures, the NMC has advised all medical colleges not to grant leave to students on June 20 and June 21, except in exceptional circumstances supported by valid justification.According to the Commission, the restriction is intended to discourage any possible misuse and support the smooth and transparent conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 Re-Examination. The directive has been communicated to deans and principals of medical colleges across the country, while copies have also been shared with the medical education departments of all states and Union Territories for information and necessary action.The NEET-UG 2026 Re-Examination is scheduled to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 21 amid heightened scrutiny over examination security and transparency.
