An Indian woman living in the United States has gone viral after sharing a video tour of her Connecticut home, offering viewers a glimpse of what she describes as a “middle-class family home” in America. Her video has sparked conversations on social media, with many comparing the size and pricing of suburban homes in the US with properties in India.Instagram creator Sonal Chaudhary posted a video walking viewers through her property, beginning with the main street before showcasing the spacious front yard, garage, backyard, deck and sunroom that doubles up as a home gym.In the caption, she revealed that the family purchased the house in 2023 for USD 440,000 (approximately Rs 4 crore).“This is how a middle-class family home looks like in America. We bought this house in 2023 for USD 440,000 (around Rs 4 crore),” she wrote.She also highlighted a feature that often surprises people outside the US.“One thing that surprises many people is that most homes here are built using wood instead of concrete. Majority of the American population lives in suburbs,” she added.
‘Our property is over an acre’
Speaking in Hindi throughout the video, Sonal explained that her family moved to the US six years ago and bought the house three years later.She pointed out that the property spans more than an acre, while the built-up area is around 2,200 square feet. According to her, the home’s current market value is estimated to be around Rs 5-6 crore.Sonal also showed the large backyard, saying it gives her children ample space to play football, badminton and other outdoor games. She noted that homes in the neighbourhood are separated by trees and open spaces, offering residents greater privacy.The video also featured the family’s deck, where they often relax with tea, along with a sunroom that has been converted into a gym and seating area.
