Under a circular issued on August 4, the regulator said NPS contributions received by the Trustee Bank up to 1:30 pm on a business settlement day, instead of the earlier 11 am, will now be eligible for same-day investment, provided they are successfully matched and booked.
The change is aimed at improving subscriber experience and operational efficiency through faster processing of contributions across the NPS ecosystem.
What changes for NPS subscribers?
Earlier, only contributions reaching the Trustee Bank by 11 am qualified for investment on the same business day. Contributions received after the cut-off were invested on the next settlement day, subject to applicable rules.
With the revised timeline, subscribers now have an additional 2.5 hours to ensure their contributions reach the Trustee Bank while still qualifying for investment at the day’s closing NAV.
The move could particularly benefit subscribers making contributions later in the day, especially during periods of market volatility, as they can lock in the same day’s NAV without having to complete transactions before 11 am.
Which contribution channels are covered?
The extended cut-off applies across all major NPS contribution channels, including:
- Government Nodal Offices
- Points of Presence (PoPs)
- eNPS
- D-Remit
- Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS)
- UPI
- STAR NPS
- Tatkal NPS
- Other operational contribution channels
Subscribers should plan transfers accordingly
PFRDA has advised subscribers, corporates, government nodal offices, Points of Presence and payment gateway service providers to initiate fund transfers well in advance so that contributions are received by the Trustee Bank on or before 1:30 pm on a business settlement day.
The regulator also asked all intermediaries to align their operational and technology systems with the revised timeline to ensure seamless implementation of the same-day investment framework.
Units will continue to be allotted based on the applicable closing NAV of the day in accordance with the existing regulatory framework, PFRDA said.
