Playback singer AR Ameen, son of music composer AR Rahman, has clarified details surrounding the minor road accident he was involved in near Guindy, Chennai, on Monday. After reports of the incident surfaced, Ameen took to social media to explain what happened, while his sister, singer-composer Khatija Rahman, also shared a statement addressing the circumstances of the accident.Clearing up reports about his role in the incident, Ameen said he was not driving the vehicle but was seated in the passenger seat. In an Instagram Stories post, he wrote, “Yesterday, on the way to the airport, I was in the passenger seat of my friend’s car when we got into a minor accident. By God’s grace, everyone involved is safe and okay. All praises to the Almighty (EPI) for His grace and protection over all of us.”Ameen also expressed gratitude to those who reached out following the news and offered their support. He wrote, “I want to sincerely thank my family, friends, and well-wishers who reached out, checked on me, and sent their love and prayers. It truly means more to me than I can express. I also believe that my grandma’s, my dad’s, and GV Anna’s prayers and values continue to guide and protect me. I will always carry their teachings with me and strive to live by everything they have instilled in me.”The singer subsequently reshared Khatija’s statement, in which she thanked people for their prayers and provided an account of how the accident took place. “Ameen was on his way to the airport, seated in the passenger seat, while his friend was driving. A driver in another vehicle ahead of them moved forward despite the signal being red, which resulted in a minor collision,” read her statement.Khatija further confirmed that everyone involved was safe, adding, “By God’s grace, Ameen, his friend, and the occupant of the other vehicle are all safe.”She also urged media outlets and others reporting on the incident to confirm information with the family before publishing details, in order to avoid ‘unnecessary worry and distress’.According to police, Ameen sustained minor injuries when a luxury SUV collided with a hatchback operated by a cab aggregator near Guindy during the early hours of Monday. Police told Hindustan Times that Ameen was driving the SUV at the time. No fatalities were reported, while Ameen, his friend and the hatchback driver suffered minor injuries and were discharged after receiving basic first aid. Both vehicles were taken into custody.Police said the accident occurred at around 3.30 AM as the vehicle was travelling towards Guindy. The hatchback, which was moving on the left side of the road, reportedly entered the main lane, resulting in the collision.A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Section 337, concerning injuries caused by an act endangering human life, and Section 279, which deals with rash or negligent driving on a public road.
