US inflation | US inflation declined slightly last month as the cost of gas and groceries slipped, though prices are still rising more quickly than before the Iran war, posing challenges for the White House as the midterm elections near. Consumer prices increased 3.4% in July from a year ago, down slightly from 3.5% in June, the Labour Department said Wednesday. Inflation had fallen to 2.4% before the Iran war. India CPI | India’s retail inflation edged higher in July, with food prices once again emerging as the bigger pressure point. CPI inflation rose to 4.45% from 4.38% in June, largely in-line with the 4.4% CNBC-TV18 poll estimate. The bigger surprise came from food inflation, which accelerated to 5.52% from 5.32% in June, also well above the CNBC-TV18 poll of 5.02%. The pickup in food prices meant the overall inflation print came in slightly hotter than expected.
