Under the agreement, Dr Reddy’s will have exclusive responsibility for the marketing and distribution of Qdenga in India’s private market. Takeda will retain commercialisation rights in the public market and will be responsible for manufacturing and importing the vaccine into India.
Qdenga is Takeda’s dengue vaccine designed to protect against all four dengue virus serotypes. India’s drug regulator recently approved the vaccine for use in both children and adults, making it the first dengue vaccine to receive regulatory clearance in the country.
Dr Reddy’s said Qdenga is expected to become available in India in the first half of 2027.
The vaccine is administered as two 0.5 ml doses given three months apart and can be used regardless of whether an individual has previously been infected with dengue. This eliminates the need for pre-vaccination screening for prior dengue infection.
The partnership is part of Dr Reddy’s efforts to expand its vaccines business in India and improve access to dengue vaccination in the country.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection and is among the fastest-growing vector-borne diseases globally. According to the World Health Organization, there were a record 14.4 million dengue cases and 11,201 deaths worldwide in 2024, including 232,425 cases and 233 deaths in India.Dr Reddy’s said the collaboration will help make Qdenga available to eligible individuals through the private market once the vaccine is launched in India.
Takeda said the partnership is aimed at expanding access to dengue vaccination in India, where the disease remains a significant public health challenge.
