EPFO members can file their nomination online through the UAN member portal. The organisation’s portal also states that filing nominations is mandatory under the EPF Scheme, 2026 and that e-nominations can be filed or updated during the service period.
Who can file EPF e-nomination?
Members need an activated UAN and a verified Aadhaar linked to their UAN. Their mobile number should also be linked with Aadhaar for the OTP-based e-sign process. An updated EPF account profile, including the member’s address and photograph, is required to complete the online nomination process.
Having an updated nomination can make it easier for eligible nominees or family members to claim PF and related benefits in the event of the member’s death.
Who is eligible and who is not?
The eligibility of nominees depends on the member’s family status. For male subscribers, eligible nominees include the wife, children, dependent parents, and the widow and children of a deceased son, while female subscribers can nominate their husband, children, dependent parents, spouse’s dependent parents, and the widow and children of a deceased son.
Spouses and children are considered family under the pension scheme, so married members must add their spouse to the family details even if they do not wish to nominate them for PF benefits. A member who is unmarried and has no spouse or children can nominate another person of their choice for PF, while pension nomination is also available to members who have no spouse or children.
How to file EPF e-nomination online
Members with an activated UAN can complete the nomination process through the EPFO member portal.
Step 1: Visit the EPFO member portal and log in using your UAN and password.
Step 2: After logging in, go to the Manage section and select e-nomination.
Step 3: Verify your personal information and update the required permanent and current address details before proceeding with the nomination.
Step 4: Select the option to update your family declaration and enter the required details of the family members you wish to add. EPFO’s official guidance allows members to add more than one family member.
Step 5: Select the nominee or nominees and specify the percentage share of the EPF amount for each nominee. If there is more than one nominee, the total share should be distributed among them.
Step 6: After entering the required details and nominee shares, select Save EPF nomination.
Step 7: To complete the process, select the e-sign option. Enter the required Aadhaar or Virtual ID details and generate an OTP on the mobile number linked with Aadhaar. Enter the OTP to authenticate the nomination. Once the e-sign process is successfully completed, the nomination is registered with EPFO.
How to update nominee offline?
Subscribers who want to add or update their nomination details offline can visit the nearest EPFO office and submit the required Form 2. The form is used to provide family and nomination details for the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) and Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI).
