Small savings scheme interest rates unchanged for October-December quarter

The government has kept interest rates on small savings schemes unchanged for the October-December quarter of FY27, meaning savers will see no change in returns on these schemes for the next three months.

Small savings schemes include popular government-backed savings products used by households for regular income and long-term savings. Their interest rates are reviewed every quarter by the government.

The rates applicable from October 1 to December 31, 2026 will remain the same as those notified for the previous quarter, covering July 1 to September 30.

The decision was announced in an office memorandum dated September 30 issued by the Budget Division of the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance.

The quarterly rate decision is important for savers because it determines the returns offered on new investments during the following three months, while existing deposits continue to earn interest according to the rules of the respective scheme.

For savers, the decision means there will be no change in the interest rates for the October-December quarter, whether they are investing in the affected schemes for the first time or continuing with existing investments.

The memorandum did not list the individual schemes or their applicable interest rates.
