Tata Steel Q2 Update: India crude steel production up 10%; deliveries rise 15%


Domestic steel major Tata Steel Ltd on Wednesday (October 7) said the company’s India crude steel production rose 10% year-on-year (YoY) to 6.21 million tons in the second quarter of FY27, while deliveries increased 7% YoY to 5.97 million tons.

Production was up 8% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), driven by higher output at its Jamshedpur and Kalinganagar facilities. On a half-year basis, production rose 10% YoY to 11.97 million tons, while deliveries increased 8% to 11.14 million tons.

Domestic deliveries were supported by an enriched product mix and stable demand across market segments despite seasonal rains. The Automotive & Special Products vertical recorded its best-ever second-quarter volumes of around 1.1 million tons, up 9% QoQ and 19% YoY, while Branded Products & Retail posted best-ever quarterly volumes of around 2.2 million tons.

The Construction & Solutions vertical recorded volumes of around 0.6 million tons, with ready-to-use solutions growing 32% YoY. Engineering and Packaging volumes stood at around 0.4 million tons, up 12% QoQ, driven by higher sales to Oil & Gas.

Colors posted best-ever quarterly volumes, rising 34% QoQ, while gross merchandise value from Tata Steel Aashiyana and DigECA increased 30% QoQ to ₹2,860 crore.

Overseas operations

Tata Steel Netherlands reported liquid steel production of around 1.52 million tons and deliveries of around 1.30 million tons in the quarter. On a half-year basis, production stood at 3.07 million tons and deliveries at 2.70 million tons. The Direct Sheet Plant restarted in August 2026 and is operating at rated capacity under the agreed framework with local regulatory authorities.

Tata Steel UK delivered 0.38 million tons during the quarter through downstream processing of purchased substrate. Deliveries were impacted by inventory buildup in the UK supply chain ahead of the implementation of new safeguard measures on July 1, 2026. The company also said production at the Llanwern pickle line has been fully ramped up.Tata Steel Thailand reported saleable steel production of 0.32 million tons and deliveries of 0.31 million tons. Deliveries were marginally lower QoQ, primarily due to heavy rains in September 2026.

Shares of Tata Steel Ltd ended at ₹175.50, down by ₹3.10, or 1.74%, on the BSE.
