TP Solar Ltd., the solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power and a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), produced 1 GW of solar modules and 0.9 GW of solar cells in the second quarter of FY27, from July to September 2026.
For the first half of FY27, from April to September, the company manufactured 2 GW of solar modules and 1.8 GW of solar cells, as it continued to ramp up production at its Tamil Nadu facility.
Solar cells are the basic units that convert sunlight into electricity, while solar modules are made by combining multiple cells. TP Solar said the production numbers reflect the continued ramp-up of its manufacturing capacity and improving operational efficiency.
The modules produced at the facility comply with the government’s Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms and are listed under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).
DCR norms require solar modules to meet specified requirements on the use of domestically manufactured components. The ALMM is the government’s list of approved solar module models and manufacturers.
TP Solar operates a 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. Tata Power, through TPREL, has invested nearly ₹4,300 crore in setting up the facility.
The plant manufactures solar cells and modules using Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) and Monocrystalline Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (Mono PERC) technologies. It also makes DCR-compliant modules using cells manufactured at the same facility.
The facility uses artificial intelligence and machine-learning systems, along with Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), in its manufacturing operations. The company said nearly 80% of its workforce comprises women.
TP Solar said the facility is part of Tata Power’s efforts to expand domestic solar manufacturing and strengthen local capabilities across the solar value chain.
Tata Power shares closed 2.88% lower at ₹335.20 on October 8 on the NSE.
