PATNA: A viral video from Siwan Model Sadar Hospital has raised serious questions over the security of patients and even bodies kept on the hospital premises. The footage, reportedly from late Tuesday night, shows a masked man approaching a body lying near the registration counter and allegedly removing a chain from the deceased’s neck before walking into the emergency ward without apparent obstruction. The authenticity of the video and the identity and role of the man have not yet been independently established. It is also unclear whether the deceased’s family was aware of the removal of the chain or had given any consent. The video, however, has triggered questions over how an outsider was allegedly able to approach the body despite the presence of security personnel and CCTV surveillance at the hospital. Police verification of the footage and further investigation will be required to establish what exactly happened.According to hospital sources, the man seen in the video has been identified as Bablu Kumar. Sources claimed that he is frequently seen around the emergency ward at night. There are also allegations that he misleads patients arriving at the hospital into going to private nursing homes and operates a private ambulance. These allegations have not been independently verified. The latest incident has also brought back concerns over an earlier complaint involving the disappearance of jewellery from a deceased woman’s body at the same hospital.A few days ago, relatives of a deceased woman had allegedly accused a female hospital sanitation worker of removing a silver anklet from the woman’s foot. The woman was identified as Aarti Devi, 35, wife of Rajan Thakur of Bangra village under Maharajganj police station.Aarti had been referred to Siwan Sadar Hospital from Maharajganj Sub-Divisional Hospital after her condition deteriorated following a snakebite. She died while being brought to the Sadar Hospital. Her family later raised an allegation regarding the missing anklet. The sanitation worker was reportedly identified on the basis of CCTV footage and handed over to police. The latest viral video has once again put the hospital’s security arrangements under scrutiny, particularly access to areas where bodies are kept before being handed over to relatives.Sadar hospital superintendent Dr Anil Kumar Singh said he was not aware of the latest incident. He said the CCTV footage would be examined on the basis of the viral video and that, if the person responsible is identified, the hospital would write to the local police station for appropriate legal action. The investigation is expected to establish whether the chain was actually removed from the deceased’s body, who the person in the footage was and how he gained access to the area without intervention.
