ALWAR: The controversy over the alleged detention of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) national organisation co-incharge Deepak Baliyan took a fresh turn on Thursday after party leaders claimed that Rajasthan Police had detained him and assaulted him and his brother, even as police maintained that Baliyan had not been detained.Baliyan, a resident of Mankheda village in Alwar district, had earlier accused local police of placing him under house arrest and threatening his family ahead of the CJP’s October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The CJP had initially claimed that Baliyan was “forcibly picked up” from his home by Rajasthan Police. Party leader Ashutosh Ranka later called on party supporters to reach the Kathumar police station.CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke subsequently alleged that the incident had escalated, claiming that Rajasthan Police had assaulted Baliyan and his brother.“Rajasthan Police has brutally assaulted CJP spokesperson Dipak Balyan and his brother followed by a stern warning by Ashutosh Ranka…. This is the twist.Deepak has been detained and his brother’s head has been cracked open,” Dipke posted on X.Responding to Dipke’s post, part leader Ashotosh Ranka said: “All cockroaches should immediately reach Kathumar Police Station, Alwar.” Tagging the Rajasthan Police, Ranka further wrote: “Sab yaad rakha jaayega.”These allegations, however, are at odds with the Rajasthan Police’s account. Kathumar SHO Chandrashekhar Sharma said he was in Faridabad searching for an accused and was unaware of anything involving Baliyan.Alwar SP Sudhir Chaudhary also dismissed the allegations as baseless, asserting that Baliyan had not been detained. He said police personnel were merely patrolling the area because of the ongoing panchayat elections and that Baliyan had been livestreaming the police patrol on social media.Baliyan, meanwhile, told TOI that nearly a dozen policemen had surrounded his residence around 7pm. He said the police initially stood close to his house but moved around 200 metres away after he questioned their presence and recorded a video. He also claimed that the road leading to his residence had been cordoned off from both ends.Baliyan alleged that his family had been threatened with being picked up by police at night and being implicated in cases carrying harsh legal sections that could make bail difficult. He also expressed concern for the safety of his family members, who he said were primarily engaged in farming. The developments come ahead of the CJP’s planned October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar against CEC Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise.“We are ready to be detained or arrested, but protest will be held on Oct 10 at Jantar Mantar,” Dipke had said.He had also questioned the restrictions on protests in Delhi, asking, “If Mumbai, Bengaluru can have peaceful protest, why Amit Shah not allowing it in Delhi,” PTI reported.Earlier on Thursday, Dipke, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee and actor-activist Prakash Raj led a protest in Bengaluru against Kumar, demanding his immediate resignation over alleged irregularities in the SIR of electoral rolls.
