Apollo Micro Systems jumps 13% after govt grants licence to make missiles, munitions


Shares of Apollo Micro Systems Ltd. surged more than 13% on Friday, April 17, after the company received a licence from the Government of India to manufacture a range of defence weapon systems and ammunition, the company said in a filing,

The licence, issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is valid for lifetime and was granted on April 10, 2026.

Under the approval, the company is authorised to manufacture, assemble and test high-calibre weapon systems, including missiles, anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), torpedoes, aerial bombs, rockets and loitering munitions, along with countermeasure systems such as chaffs, flares and decoys.

Manufacturing and testing will be carried out at the company’s facilities in Hyderabad, with an indicated production capacity of 1,000 units per category annually.

“This license is an important step in expanding the Company’s presence in the defence manufacturing sector… we now have the building blocks to develop and manufacture a meaningful range of weapon systems,” according to the company’s managing director B Karunakar Reddy.

The company said the licence also enables integration of capabilities from its step-down subsidiary, IDL Explosives Ltd., which has expertise in propellants, explosives and detonators relevant to defence applications.

Shares of Apollo Micro Systems are trading 13.1% higher on Friday after the announcement at ₹275.4. The stock is up 37% in the last one month and is among the top performers in the broader markets. With this move, the stock has recovered nearly all of its losses made in 2026 so far.
