Originally introduced in 2020 as a COVID-19 contact tracing application, Aarogya Setu is now being repositioned as a comprehensive personal health record and healthcare access platform under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
What Aarogya Setu 2.0 will offer
According to the official Press Information Bureau (PIB) release, the revamped app will allow users to create and manage their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), access and share digital health records, and use consent-based health information exchange services.
The app will also support:
- AI-powered health insights and smart health reports
- Wearable device integration
- OPD registration through “Scan & Register”
- Hospital payments using “Scan & Pay”
- Medication reminders
- Family health management services
In addition, the platform will provide access to nearby healthcare facilities and doctors, ambulance services, blood banks with blood unit availability, and Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
Users will also be able to access PM-JAY-related services, including searching for empanelled hospitals, accessing the AB PM-JAY wallet, and viewing Ayushman CAPF policy details.
Shift beyond COVID-era use
The relaunch marks a significant shift for Aarogya Setu, which was widely used during the pandemic for contact tracing, self-assessment, and COVID-related alerts.
The government is now positioning the app as a gateway to multiple digital health services through a single interface. Officials say the initiative is part of a larger effort to build a connected and interoperable healthcare ecosystem in India.
Part of wider digital health rollout
Alongside Aarogya Setu 2.0, the Centre will also launch several other digital health initiatives on June 29, including:
- Enhanced Ayushman App
- Ayushman Sarathi WhatsApp chatbot
- National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX)
- Drug Registry
- Common LOINC Codes for India (CLCI)
- e-Sushrut Clinic
- Insurance Plan FHIR Object standards
The government said these initiatives are intended to strengthen India’s digital public infrastructure for health by improving interoperability, accessibility, and standardisation across healthcare systems.
