Lining drawers or cabinets with foil creates a washable, replaceable layer that takes the wear so the furniture underneath doesn’t have to.
It makes deep cleaning a quick swap
Instead of unloading every jar and can to scrub a shelf by hand, you simply lift out the dirty foil, dispose of it, and lay down a fresh sheet. This helps ease the process, as most pantries tend to collect debris faster than almost any other kitchen space but get properly cleaned far less often.
How to line the shelves with a foil sheet
Start by emptying the shelf, then clean and dry the surface so nothing gets trapped underneath. Cut a sheet of foil slightly larger than the shelf so it covers the surface with a small overhang. Smooth it down, then arrange your items back on top. When it starts looking worn, crumbed-up, or stained, remove it and swap in a new piece.
Where the trick doesn’t work
