Anupam Kher questions Minister’s behaviour
Anupam Kher shared his reaction through an Instagram post after watching a video of the exchange between Daler Mehndi and a minister on stage. The actor questioned whether the singer needed to be confronted in front of an audience. He said any concerns about the performance could have been discussed privately. “I watched a video in which a minister was speaking to Daler Mehndi ji on stage. The way he spoke to him was deeply upsetting to see. I have known Daler ji for many years. I also know that he hasn’t been keeping well for some time now. Minister ji, you may have had complaints about his performance. You may even have been upset with him. But was it really necessary to go up on stage and humiliate him in front of everyone? Couldn’t the same thing have been said to him privately, with dignity and respect? (Mantri ji…..kya sabke saamne manch par jakar is tarah unhe apmanit karna zaruri tha?),” Anupam Kher wrote.

The actor also spoke about the recognition artists earn through years of dedication. He noted that Daler Mehndi had entertained audiences for decades and deserved respect for his work. Kher expressed sympathy for the singer and recalled his personal impression of him. He added, “An artist spends an entire lifetime earning the recognition and respect that comes through years of hard work. For the past 30-35 years, Daler ji has brought joy to all of us through his songs. Surely, his contribution deserves some appreciation and respect. Daler ji, I have always known you as a kind-hearted person who spreads love. As far as I know you, you don’t even drink alcohol. I am deeply sorry that you had to go through something like this.”
What sparked the Daler mehndi controversy?
The controversy followed Daler Mehndi’s performance at a cultural event in Uttarakhand. State minister Subodh Uniyal reportedly questioned the singer’s conduct during the programme. He alleged that Daler Mehndi appeared disoriented and was lip-syncing while performing. The minister also alleged that the singer was under the influence of alcohol. These claims drew attention to the event and prompted discussions about the circumstances surrounding the performance.
Mika Singh speaks about his brother’s health
Amid the controversy, Daler Mehndi’s brother, singer Mika Singh, shared a video message on Tuesday. Mika discussed his brother’s health and pushed back against allegations that he had consumed alcohol. He said Daler Mehndi had been unwell for the past two years and was still recovering. He also revealed that his brother had undergone an operation recently. Despite his health difficulties, Daler Mehndi has continued performing with his band, according to Mika. The singer emphasised that his brother did not drink alcohol and asked people to consider his health while discussing the performance. He also questioned the scrutiny faced by Daler Mehndi compared with other performers who use backing tracks.“I know my brother Daler Mehndi, and he does not drink alcohol. He has been unwell for the past two years and is still recovering, yet he continues to perform with his band. These days, many performers use backing tracks, but nobody questions them in the same way,” Mika said in the video.
