Astra Microwave bags ₹2,205 crore HAL order for Uttam Radar programme

Astra Microwave Productshas secured a ₹2,205.23 crore order from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), a Ministry of Defence enterprise, for the supply of equipment for the Uttam Radar programme, the company said in an exchange filing on Thursday.

The order will be executed over a five-year period.

For a company that reported annual revenue of around ₹1,163 crore in FY26, the contract is nearly twice its yearly revenue, providing significant long-term revenue visibility.

What the contract includes

The contract covers the supply of:

  • 122 Anti-Aircraft Auxiliary Units (AAAU), and
  • 121 Interface Frames

for the Uttam Radar programme.

The Uttam Radar is an indigenous Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar developed for fighter aircraft. The programme is a key part of India’s push to reduce dependence on imported defence equipment and strengthen domestic military manufacturing.

Builds on defence order pipeline

The latest contract further strengthens Astra Microwave’s defence order book and comes just a few months after another order from HAL.

On April 1, 2026, the company’s joint venture, Astra Rafael Comsys Pvt. Ltd. (ARC), secured a ₹250.58 crore order from HAL’s Bengaluru division to supply Software Defined Radio (SDR) systems.

That contract is scheduled to be completed within 18 months.

ARC develops military communication systems and supplies software-defined radios for defence applications.

The back-to-back orders from HAL underscore Astra Microwave’s growing role in India’s defence electronics ecosystem, particularly in radar and military communications.

Comes after a strong FY26

The large order follows a year of strong financial performance for the company.

For the March 2026 quarter, Astra Microwave reported a net profit of ₹106 crore, up 44.4% from ₹73.4 crore a year earlier.

Revenue rose 19.7% to ₹488.2 crore from ₹408 crore, while the EBITDA margin expanded to 33.4% from 29.3%.

For the full FY26, net profit increased 26% to ₹192.97 crore, while revenue grew 11% to ₹1,162.8 crore.

The strong earnings, coupled with a growing defence order pipeline, provide greater visibility into future execution and revenue growth.

Stock has rallied sharply

Shares of Astra Microwave Products settled 2.51% lower at ₹1,729.20 on Thursday.

Despite the day’s decline, the stock has gained 53.39% over the past three months, 75.90% so far this year and 78.47% over the past 12 months.

The sharp rally reflects investors’ growing optimism around India’s defence manufacturing sector, which continues to benefit from higher government spending and increased emphasis on indigenisation.
