The feature, called UPI Limit Management, allows customers to set separate limits for person-to-person (P2P), domestic merchant and international merchant transactions through the Axis Mobile Banking app.
Axis Bank has not disclosed the specific rupee limits that customers can set under the new facility. The bank said customers can define personalised thresholds based on their payment needs.
The feature is currently being rolled out to a limited set of customers and will subsequently be made available to the wider customer base.
How is this different from existing UPI limits?
UPI transactions are already subject to limits prescribed under the UPI framework, along with limits that may be set by individual banks. For example, Axis Bank’s own information says UPI limits can vary depending on the bank and applicable rules.
The new Axis feature adds a customer-level control on top of those existing limits. Instead of only operating within the maximum transaction limit allowed by the bank or UPI framework, an eligible customer can set a lower limit for their own account.
For instance, a customer who does not normally make high-value P2P payments could set a lower P2P threshold. This could limit the amount that can be transferred if an unauthorised or accidental transaction is attempted.
The limits set through the Axis Mobile Banking app apply across all UPI applications linked to the customer’s Axis Bank account, rather than being restricted to transactions made through the Axis app.Customers can view or modify their limits through Quick Links → Safety Centre → UPI Module under Control Centre. Changes require MPIN and OTP authentication, the bank said.
Axis Bank also introduces international travel declaration
Separately, Axis Bank has introduced an International Travel Declaration facility for eligible credit-card customers. The feature allows customers to inform the bank about their overseas travel plans before travelling.
The bank said this information will be considered as part of its fraud and risk assessment when evaluating international card transactions. This is intended to help distinguish genuine overseas spending from unusual transactions and potentially reduce avoidable declines.
Customers can access the facility through Credit Card → Control Center → International Travel, according to the bank.
Both features are part of Axis Bank’s broader digital banking and payment controls, but the UPI limit facility is particularly relevant for customers seeking to place their own spending thresholds on different types of UPI transactions.
