As one of the world’s most recognizable public figures, privacy was clearly an important factor in the design of Xanadu 2.0. Gates reportedly acquired neighboring plots over time to create natural buffers using trees, lawns, and private driveways that shield the estate from public view. At the same time, several architectural reports describe parts of the house as earth-sheltered and environmentally conscious. The landscaping and structural design were planned to work with the natural lakeside terrain, improving energy efficiency and temperature control.
