Johnson’s interest in animal longevity emerged after he brought home a professionally trained Belgian Malinois named Katara to serve as a personal protection dog. During a recent longevity gathering in San Francisco, Katara remained by Johnson’s side while he encouraged tech workers participating in push-up fitness challenges used to gauge biological age.Speaking with venture capitalist Sarah Guo during the event (via Business Insider), Johnson explained that he receives numerous death threats, making Katara both an essential guard animal and a close companion over the past month.

While Johnson told Business Insider that he does not currently intend to establish a commercial business dedicated to animal healthcare, he plans to apply his data-driven biohacking routines to Katara.
