Heavy rains have once again put Uttarakhand on edge, and several viral videos on social media show bone-chilling visuals of massive water running down the mountains in the region after a flash flood hit Tamak Nala in Chamoli district of the state near Joshimath.Viral video shows flash flood wash away a river overbridge as cloud burst brings down heavy rainsAs Uttarakhand stands affected by flash floods, a video has gone viral on Instagram, posted by the user @iamsurajmoyal on his social media profile.The video shows a massive amount of muddy water running down the mountain near a connecting bridge over a river strip. What followed was even more devastating: the force of water swept away the bridge within seconds after strong river currents, swollen by heavy rain, slammed into it, leaving the area cut off from the main town.Visuals also showed a truck and an SUV on a road along the river turning away from the unfolding disaster just in time.
Entire state to remain affected by the torrential rainfall
ADM Vivek Prakash told ANI that flash floods washed away the Bailey Bridge in Tamak Nala in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.With the crossing gone, life in the area has changed overnight as the area got cut off from the main town.Uttarakhand Disaster Management and Rehabilitation secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said to ANI, “it will rain in the entire state. And the rain will continue continuously. There will be a gap of some time in the evening. After this, like it rained last night, it will rain again like this in the night.”Suman added that Dehradun, Bageshwar, Nainital, and Champawat are among the worst-affected districts. He also said that the administration is not just reacting to the rain but preparing communities for it.
Police operations are underway
Teams from the police, local administration, SDRF, and NDRF have all been sent to the spot.Separately, Chamoli Police said the heavy rain in Niti Valley has caused the Alaknanda River’s water level to rise and posted safety precautions to be taken in the region, stating on their X post, “Due to heavy rainfall in the Niti Valley, the water level of the Alaknanda River has risen. From a safety perspective, police teams are appealing to people living along the riverbank to move to safe locations through loudspeakers/announcements.“
