Indian equity markets ended near the day’s high on April 15, 2026, with strong buying across sectors lifting benchmark indices over 1.5%.
The BSE Sensex surged 1,264 points to close at 78,111, while the NSE Nifty rose 389 points to settle at 24,231. Market breadth remained firmly positive, with 27 of the 30 Sensex constituents ending higher and an advance-decline ratio of 8:1 on the NSE.
Heavyweights such as Reliance Industries, L&T, HDFC Bank and Infosys were among the top contributors to the rally. The Nifty Bank index gained 697 points to 56,302, while the midcap index outperformed, rising 1,264 points to 58,778.
All sectoral indices closed in the green, led by capital markets and IT stocks.
Among stocks, Hindalco hit a record high, RailTel jumped over 18% on a major order win, and LIC gained 5% after approving a bonus issue.
