Spotting the ‘Ik Onkar’ symbol on his T-shirt, the singer gently pointed it out and explained why his own name couldn’t sit beside it. “My name with this, no. This is very precious. I respect your feelings,” Diljit told him. He then walked the fan toward the centre of the stage and turned to the crowd, asking them to excuse the man, since he likely didn’t realize the religious significance of what was on his shirt.

Once clips from the concert started doing the rounds online, the fan himself weighed in through the comments, offering an apology. He clarified that placing Diljit’s name so close to the symbol wasn’t intentional, adding that ‘Ik Onkar’ carried personal meaning for him too. “It was an unexpected and surreal moment. I didn’t realize Diljit’s name was so close to the ੴ symbol when making the shirt. I didn’t mean any harm, actually ੴ means a lot to me since I’ve regularly visited the Gurudwara. My apologies for any trouble I created…,” he wrote.
