The University of Delhi (DU) has announced a special provision for students who are unable to appear for examinations scheduled on May 28 because of Eid-ul-Zuha celebrations. The university said such students will be allowed to take the examination after July 4, 2026.The decision was announced by the University of Delhi on Thursday through its official social media handle. The university said students who wish to use this facility must inform their respective principals or heads of departments through email. In its statement, the university said, “Students unable to appear in the exam on 28 May 2026 due to Eid-ul-Zuha will have the option to sit for it after 4 July 2026. Eligible students must email their Principal/Head of Department to avail this option.”
Students asked to inform colleges through email
DU has clarified that only those students who officially inform their colleges or departments through email will be able to use the special examination arrangement. The university has advised students to contact their principals or heads of departments at the earliest to avoid any confusion regarding the examination process later.
Change in Bakrid date led to exam concerns
The announcement came after changes in Eid-ul-Adha or Bakrid holiday schedules in several parts of the country.Earlier, the festival was expected to be celebrated on May 27 in many regions. However, religious authorities later confirmed that the moon marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah was not sighted in several places on the expected evening.Following the revised moon-sighting confirmation, Eid-ul-Zuha is now being observed on May 28 across most parts of India. The change created concerns among students who had university examinations scheduled on the same day.
Relief for students appearing in exams
The university’s decision is expected to provide relief to many students who wanted to participate in Eid celebrations with their families without missing their examinations. The special provision ensures that affected students will get another opportunity to appear for the examination after July 4, 2026.
