EPFO services now available on WhatsApp: How to check PF balance, download passbook

Checking your Provident Fund (PF) balance has become easier, with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) introducing its services on WhatsApp. Members can now access important details related to their PF accounts without visiting the EPFO website or using an application.

The service was launched on November 1, on the occasion of EPFO Foundation Day, by Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya. In a post on X, EPFO announced the launch as another step towards making its digital services more accessible to members.

The new facility allows users to check their EPF balance, view their five most recent transactions and download their EPF passbook directly through WhatsApp.

Official number and features

EPFO has introduced a dedicated WhatsApp number, +91 8796441800, through which members can access their PF account information. Users can begin by sending a simple ‘Hi’ message to the number or scanning the QR code shared by EPFO.

The service supports English and several Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati and Urdu. Members are required to verify their identity using a one-time password (OTP) sent to the mobile number registered with their Universal Account Number (UAN).

How to check last five EPF transactions on WhatsApp

To view recent PF account activity, members can select the ‘Last 5 Transactions’ option from the WhatsApp service menu. After completing OTP verification, they need to choose the relevant PF account. The service will then display the five most recent transactions associated with that account.

Members with multiple PF accounts should select the correct Member ID to access the required information.

Important things to know

Members should use only EPFO’s official WhatsApp number to access these services. They should also ensure that their mobile number is linked to their UAN, as OTP verification is required to retrieve account details.

Users should never share their OTP, UAN password or other sensitive account information with anyone claiming to offer EPFO assistance.
